My journey from fat to fit!!

When Betty asked me to write a journal about my journey from fat to fit, I thought sure no problem!  Then I began to write and realized how hard it was to revisit some of those times in my life.  I have never been a what society considers thin but Betty and I had a lot of conversations on the value of differentiating between thin and fit.  If my goal at the end of the journey was to be a size 2 which is what I should be for my height than I would have never even tried.  When my goal became to get fit then it was much more attainable and worth a try!

My journey began after the birth of my triplet boys in 2005.

My Journey from Fat to Fit - Tanya 1 I gained almost 130lbs but I gave birth to three healthy baby boys!  I was the first time in my life where people actually were begging me to eat more than 4,000 calories to make sure the babies and I had enough food!  Then a few weeks after they were born Katrina hit.  The stress of taking care of three infants and the loss experienced during Katrina was overwhelming.  I lost a lot of the weight after their birth but slowly put it back on.

The next few years I spend devoted to my children and feeling guilty about doing anything for myself.  This was the result:

Then I decided that enough was enough and no more excuses!  I began to run and gave myself a goal to run a ½ marathon.  I didn’t really believe it myself but received so much encouragement that I did it!

I was able to make major progress with endurance and exercise and saw some weight loss:

But something was missing.  Then this person gave me the key to success and I learned a VERY important lesson.  You CAN NOT out run, out exercise what you put in your mouth!! Your source of fuel is MOST important in any weight loss journey.  It’s about a lifestyle change.

Betty introduced me to Healthy Course Meals and took it a step further.  She explained to me how it all works and why it is so important to watch what you eat.  Most important to me was the taste of the meals and the convenience!!!  The food is amazing and they are always introducing new items.  The pricing is very affordable.  It has changed my life and keeps me motivated.  I am forever grateful!

Not only did I complete the ½ marathon, I have run 3 other ½ marathons as well.  With the right fuel I hit a personal record on the last race that I ran!

This is me now and I could not be happier!!!  It is a journey not a sprint! It is possible for anyone but you have to be very aware of the fuel you put into your body! – Tannya
